Senior Accountant

This position is part of a Finance Team responsible for the preparation of the annual financial statements, management of all financial asset registers, management of all treasury/banking/ functions, management of all taxation obligations and responsible for various general ledger reconciliations. The team will rotate responsibilities to ensure all team members obtain exposure to all facets of the position.

Assist in developing and implementing financial policies and processes for performance management and reporting, asset maintenance and enhancement, funding decisions, and risk management practices.

Permanent full-time position.  

The salary range for these opportunities commences at $90,132 (Grade H, Step1) + 9.5% super.

 Accountabilities include:

  • Responsible for the preparation of annual financial statements and related work papers.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, accounting standards, Council policies and internal control principles as required.
  • Assist in the annual audit of Council's accounts and attend to any queries raised by internal or external auditors, where appropriate.
  • Assist the implementation of any recommendations made by external auditors in the audit management letters.
  • Responsible for Council’s cash management, treasury and banking functions and maintenance of cash reserves.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate financial asset registers.
  • Ensure compliance with all taxation obligations including lodgement of required returns, reporting, payments and administration.
  • Analyse financial data and provide recommendations and support to the Team Leader Financial Processes.
  • Responsible for maintaining the completeness, accuracy, reliability and integrity of Councils financial ledgers

Essential Criteria: 

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting, Commerce, Business or Finance.
  • Current NSW Drivers Licence
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake the functions and responsibilities identified in this role.
  • Demonstrated relevant accounting experience
  • Extensive knowledge and experience working with an accounting enterprise system to manage and oversee the financial system
  • Experience in interpreting financial results for policy and strategy formulation.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and follow strict procedures and guidelines.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and a strong analytical approach to problem solving combined with the ability to demonstrate initiative
  • Ability to plan and prioritise work.
  • Excellent customer relationship skills.
  • Relevant computer skills (including Microsoft Office applications).
